THE GARBSTORE

Q1 “The word ‘garb’ in GARB STORE, which means ‘clothing,’ is rarely used in general today. Can you tell us about the concept of GARB STORE?

I wanted to open a clothes shop that was more traditional in its outlook, One that would have its own clothing it would make and also surround it with the creations of friends. Garb is the oldest english recorded word used for clothing. The name is very unambiguous. Very simply a Clothing Shop.

Q2 Have there been any changes to GARB STORE since its initial launch in 2007?For example, the selection of products, what you look for in a brand, etc.

The products we make I think have all followed the original ethos of the shop. To create things that are ‘Historically new’ I always try and imagine our creations traveling back in time and slotting in well with what our store would have been in the past. The selection around the products changes over time due to the eclectic way we perceive fashion in London.

We try and remain in between genres, Heritage & street always collide well in our store. Never reproduction, brands have to offer a new way.

Q3 What is the most important thing for GARB STORE?

Quality and to offer products that reflect the sum of their parts. I hate over priced clothing that is only selling a name. The fabric and make quality have to be believable to the price. This way we fall in love with very low priced things also. Aspiration doesn’t always have mean expensive.

Q4 We had a fateful encounter at the exhibition JUMBLE and decided to create special order items for AS2OV and TDR.Can you tell us about your new brand “TDR”?

TDR is a new concept that takes our idea of unfamiliar vintage a bit further, Only I will know what TDR means, It will build around our ongoing  journey with understanding  vintage clothing and manufacturing. I like sometimes that things have a long story that we will never know, when buying something old it has already been a part of many lives, the story is hidden within.

Q5 What is the point of AS2OV's special order items?

Summer in UK means festival time. I attend Glastonbury each year and having the perfect bag is essential. The point of special order was to create something that is useful everyday but also has unique added functions for festival use.

Q6 Can you tell us your impression of AS2OV and UNBY store?

Passionate about details, function before fashion.

Q7 GARB STORE carries many Japanese brands. From your point of view, do you have any good points about Japanese brands?

I think That Japanese brands never really feel rushed, they feel like they have the knowledge of many people to create new products that respect the way things are made, one canm tell allot by turning something inside out, Japanese goods consider the details and reward the user in a way that create longevity and a start of long history with the item.

Q8 Please give a message to the Japanese customers who take this shoulder bag!(UNBY staff members are also going to buy them! (haha)

Go to a festival, forget about the world.
